Established in 1993, the school is managed by the Anand Educational Society and is spread across 25 acres of lush greenery at an altitude of 3,500 feet above sea level. Our pollution-free and peaceful environment fosters a unique learning experience that goes beyond textbooks.
At Anand Niketan, we are committed to providing exceptional educational facilities primarily for the children of Christian Workers. However, we embrace students from all cultural and religious backgrounds, nurturing an inclusive and diverse learning environment.
Spread across 25 acres of picturesque greenery, the campus offers a tranquil and inspiring environment for academic and personal growth. From state-of-the-art facilities to meticulously designed residential hostels, every aspect of Anand Niketan is crafted to ensure a safe, supportive, and enriching experience for its students. The school operates under the Anand Educational Society, registered under the Societies Act of Tamil Nadu. Comprising educationists, doctors, and evangelists, the society upholds principles of transparency and accountability, with accounts regularly audited and financial returns duly filed with the government. How it Started
The Genesis of Anand Education Society:
The Mission Action Group of UESI Tamil Nadu has long been committed to promoting mission awareness among students to needy places. In its earlier days, under the leadership of Prof. Ivan Balasingh, the group conducted a 10-day training camp, which is now known as MEET. As part of this initiative, the leaders decided to visit the remote places from their camps to encourage and support workers who were already serving to help remote and rural communities.
Among these was Dr. Varghese Philip, who regularly attended the camps, sharing his vision for Odisha through his presentation, “Odisha Beckons.” Inspired by this vision, he and his team later ventured to Lamtaput in Odisha, where they pioneered a medical mission under the banner of Asha Kiran Hospital and Society. It was a transformative effort that sought to bring healing and hope to the marginalized communities in the region.
Following their longstanding tradition of visiting workers in the field, Prof. Ivan Balasingh and Dr. K.O. John, from the Mission Action Group, traveled to Lamtaput to encourage Dr. Varghese Philip and his team. Mr. Sundarsingh also encouraged a young postgraduate mathematics teacher, Mr. Sundaresan, to accompany them on this journey. Little did they know that this visit would ignite a vision that would shape the future of Christian workers education in North India.
While in Lamtaput, they felt a strong divine calling to establish a school dedicated to these children. This vision had already been on the mind of Prof. Ivan Balasingh for some time, and being in Lamtaput only strengthened his conviction. Together, Dr. K.O. John and Prof. Ivan Balasingh presented the idea to the Mission Action Group and a select circle of trusted friends. The burden to create a school for missionary children grew even stronger, and after much prayer and deliberation, they resolved to take the first step. To bring this vision to life, Prof. Ivan Balasingh assembled a committed team, primarily composed of individuals he had mentored and discipled over the years. This marked the birth of Anand Education Society and, ultimately, the school that would serve those children. Several dedicated individuals played instrumental roles in establishing this mission-driven institution. Dr. Er. Bennet John and Dr. Sugantha Raj, who were working in the United States, significantly contributed to the vision and provided crucial financial support. Back in India, Dr. Selvaraj Pandian played an important role in facilitating the project. Mr. Paul Rajendran and his family from Coimbatore also provided invaluable assistance. Mr. Reuben Balasingh and Ms. Kalpana Ivan, children of Prof. Ivan Balasingh, continue to be valuable pillars of support for Anand Niketan. Through their active contributions and expertise, they play a vital role in the school’s growth and development.
Additionally, Mr. S. Ponraj, who was the principal of Santhosha Vidhyalaya, extended tremendous support through the resources of Santhosha Vidhyalaya. Furthermore, Mr. Augustine Sundarsingh, Mr. Paul Sudhakar, and a few other committed individuals aided Prof. Ivan Balasingh in various secretarial tasks, including typing and documentation, ensuring that the vision was meticulously planned and executed.
The establishment of Anand Education Society stands tall to the strong commitment of these visionaries who, driven by faith and a deep burden, laid the foundation for an institution dedicated to nurturing the next generation. Their legacy continues to inspire and impact countless lives, reflecting the true essence of mission and service.
Currently, Anand Niketan is managed by the Anand Educational Society, registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975. Comprising educationists, doctors, and well-wishers, the society is committed to academic excellence and ethical governance. The financial accounts of the school and society are regularly audited, ensuring transparency and accountability in all operations.

Our Founder
The legacy of Anand Niketan is deeply rooted in the life and work of Prof. Ivan Balasingh, a distinguished academician and visionary leader. As the Head of the English Department at Kamraj College, Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, he dedicated his life to education and mission service.
His Contributions:
- Established Santhosha Vidhyalaya School, Dohnavur, Tamil Nadu (1982): Began with just 36 students, laying a strong foundation for quality education.
- Founded Anand Niketan School, Lamtaput, Odisha (1993): Continued his mission to educate and uplift the children of Indian Christian Workers.
- Mentor and Guide: Worked closely with the Evangelical Union of Students of India, shaping young minds in both academic and spiritual growth.
Prof. Ivan Balasingh’s strong commitment to education, discipline, and service continues to inspire generations through the institutions he started, ensuring that his vision and values endure.

Mr. S. Ponraj is a dedicated educationist with a distinguished career spanning over three decades in the field of school leadership and administration. A postgraduate with a deep passion for holistic education, he served as the Principal of Santhosha Vidhyalaya, Dohnavur, Tamil Nadu, for 34 years. Under his visionary leadership, the school flourished, shaping the lives of number of students with strong academic foundations, discipline, and Christian values.
Now serving as the Correspondent of Anand Niketan, Lamtaput, Odisha, Mr. Ponraj continues his mission of nurturing young minds and empowering children from diverse backgrounds. His commitment to education, mentorship, and community development remains an inspiration for students and educators alike. Through his guidance, Anand Niketan continues to uphold its vision of academic excellence, character formation, and service to society.
